SH-BITS AND SH-BLUNDERS
Sh-Boom Gossip and Gab

The highlight of the past summer has to be the Sh-Boom & Fans Getaway to Memphis, TN.  The trip was to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary. Let’s recap some of the adventures.

Scott and Leslie distributed Jell-O shots as the motor coach headed down I-55 south of St. Lou. Passengers were soon calling for them by code, “Give me a red”;  “We’ll have another green on this side!” Our bus floated right to the middle of Memphis by mid-afternoon on June 26th.

The downtown Radisson Hotel was very nice, and the group meals at Pierside and Elvis Presley’s restaurants exquisite. You can’t go wrong when dining with good people. Sh-Boom fans are great!  Donna and Cheryl from Brentwood Travel made excellent arrangements for our group.

What else happened? Let’s see… Sh-Boom opened the Memphis Redbirds AAA baseball game by performing the Star Spangled Banner. While the Redbirds were busy winning their game, some Sh-Boomers were busy winning it big at the slots in Tunica. The guests visited a variety of area attractions including Mud Island, Sun Studio, the Peabody Ducks, the Gibson Guitar Factory, and the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum. Do you know that you can hear just about any recorded song of Memphis’ rich musical heritage at the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum? Each timeless rendition performed by our friend Jim Hagedorn! You just don’t realize how loud you are singing sometimes when you’re wearing those headphones!

The entire group paid a pilgrimage to Graceland to see the E oracle. Sh-Boom fan (and even bigger Elvis fan) Wanda Watson enjoyed this excursion more than anyone in the group. In fact, we believe that Wanda enjoyed this particular trip even more than the 14 visits she made there last year.

Sh-Boom performed Friday & Saturday nights at Elvis Presley’s Memphis nightclub on Beale Street. During the Saturday night show, Sh-Boom fans surprised the band with an anniversary cake. What a lot of fun EP’s was! I’m sure the ghost of Elvis was with us those nights and, since Lisa Marie couldn’t make it, we’ll take what we can get.
