Glory Days
Sh-boom performs for alma mater
Lindbergh

Our high school principal welcomed the incoming freshman class of 19*# with,  "Your high school days will be the best four years of your life".  It was, in fact, at Lindbergh High where several of the students who would later comprise Sh-boom first met.  Sh-boom supports their alma mater with two upcoming dances.

The Lindbergh Football Boosters will hold a dance at "Two Hearts Banquet Center" on Friday, January 21st at 7:30 p.m.  A silent auction includes memorabilia from Tiger Woods, Michail Jordan, and Mark McGwire.   Coach Beauchamp says, "adults only, seating is limited, and Miller, take the bench".  For tickets call (314)843-5345.

The year 2000 marks Lindbergh School Districts 50th anniversary with a celebration in style.  Sh-boom will perform for a 50th Anniversary "Nostalgia Night" in the Student Commons area near Gym #3 at LHS on Saturday, March 11th at 7:30 p.m.  For tickets call (314)849-0936.

Sh-bits and Sh-blunders
Sh-boom gossip and gab

Sh-boom brushed elbows with the Otters pro hockey team at the home opener where Sh-boom sang the National Anthem.  That is, if you call four guys in pink socks being body checked into the  boards "brushing elbows".

Sh-boom recently entertained guests of Randi Costas, wife of broadcaster, Bob Costas, at the Magic House' 20th Anniversary gala in Kirkwood.

"Lil" Ricky Johnson rejoined the original quartet of Sh-boom vocalist as the group paid tribute to our friend Ralph Stille who passed away in November.

Sh-boom can boast a record sell-out for the New Years Eve extravaganza.  While other venues overestimated public response to their Y2K celebrations, Sh-boom's party was sold out in September.

Gil Engler of the Childrens Miracle Network led Sh-boom on a December tour of Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital where the strolling band performed their own style of Christmas carols.  Stress levels dropped, crying babies were soothed, and furrowed brows turned to bright-eyed smiles as the roving rockers proved the power of music.

Nancy Caito hosted a surprise 40th birthday celebration for her hubby, Dyno' Dave at their home.  Dave was genuinely surprised as he walked in the front door to the sight of friends and family.  Leslie Lackey, later that same evening, was genuinely surprised as she walked "through" the door of the house to the chagrin of the crowd (You see the screen door was closed when Leslie walked through it!) Even later that night the new band "The Screen Doors" was put together comprising Leslie and friends.

Which Sh-boomer is next to hit the big four-0?  Find out in the next edition of Sh-Bits 'n' Sh-Blunders;  Tell Leslie that its time to close the door on this one!

Rock & Roll Heaven

Ralph Stille 1921-1999

ChuckABur.jpg (78657 bytes)

Long time Sh-boom friend, Ralph Stille, succumbed to cancer on November 20th.  Mr. Stille began working for Chuck-A-Burger in 1957, later becoming owner of the popular north county restaurant. His son Ron now runs Chuck-A-Burger at its original location on St. Charles Rock Rd. in St. John.

Chuck-A-Burger, a St. Louis institution and a slice of Americana, still offers its vintage decor, great food, "cruise nights", and even waitresses in poodle skirts.

When Sh-boom was formed in 1983, Ralph was one of the first to hire the band.  Sh-boom has performed for "Cruise Nights" and Chuck-A-Burger functions some 20 times over the years.  In 1993 , Chuck-A-Burger co-sponsored Sh-boom's first Caribbean cruise.

Sh-boom was privileged to sing a hymn at Mr. Stille's funeral.   Ralph is survived by his wife Charlotte, 4 children, and 9 grandchildren.   Memorials can be sent to Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Bridgeton, MO.
